Project Description
I’ve been writing copy for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) website since February 2015. My first writing job for the organisation was a landing page for International Women’s Day, highlighting the ways in which WFP empowers women through its humanitarian work. Since then, I’ve worked regularly with WFP, becoming increasingly involved with producing and editing copy for the website.
My involvement currently focuses on writing and editing copy that communicates the important work that WFP carries out in countries around the world. I take copy written internally and rewrite it so that there is a uniform written style, taking technical copy and making it accessible and easy to understand for a wider audience. When writing the copy, I liaise with WFP managers in countries all over the world to ensure that the issues the organisation deals with are communicated with both accuracy and compassion. I write within the strict confines of WFP’s style guide, and also with consideration for political sensitivities in the countries in which the organisation operates.
